Train the Trainer (TOT) Workshops on the Illinois English Language Development Standards Framework
Districts are invited to the Train the Trainer workshops on the English Language Development (ELD) Standards that World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium is providing in Illinois at ISBE’s request. There are no registration or participation fees for IL districts.
These are three-day interactive workshops that are student-centered and teacher-focused. These workshops will engage participants in a variety of facilitation techniques for the purpose of understanding academic language development for ELs. These workshops have been designed for educators who have a strong foundation in second language acquisition and some understanding of the English Language Development (ELD) Standards Framework. While acquiring facilitation techniques, participants will deepen their understanding of the Framework.
Participants must have an ESL and/or Bilingual Education endorsement and experience working with ELs and the district can send one representative or a team of two.
Detailed information about workshop times and locations are listed below. Email Sonia Serrano at email@example.com and William Garcia at firstname.lastname@example.org to register for the Springfield site. Space is limited. Interested individuals will be registered on a first-come first-serve basis.

Local Directors of Title III Programs: Request for Information
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has re-opened the request for information (RFI) on Native American English learners in order to give interested parties additional time to submit written responses. The purpose of the RFI is to gather information pertaining to the identification and placement of Native American students who are English learners(ELs) in language instruction educational programs. ED developed this RFI to help State educational agencies, local educational agencies, schools, tribes, and other interested entities identify, share, and implement practices for accurately identifying Native American students who are English learners. All of the responses will be available to the public.
Local directors can access the document at the following link:
Please note that interested parties should submit their comments on or before August 2, 2013 through the Federal eRulemaking Portal or via U.S. mail, commercial delivery, or hand delivery.
