Illinois officials recognize Plainfield school for improved student performance
Annual list recognizes improving and high-performing schools from across the state
PLAINFIELD — State Superintendent of Education Christopher A. Koch visited Grande Park Elementary School Tuesday to recognize the school for being named to the 2013 Illinois Honor Roll. Students and staff celebrated the school’s progress during a school assembly in the K-5 elementary school, part of Community Unit School 308 district serving students in Aurora, Joliet, Montgomery, Plainfield and Yorkville.
“With hard work and dedication, the students and staff here at Grande Park are posting great results,” said Superintendent Koch. “I hope that the families and members of the Plainfield community will also take time to celebrate their achievements as we all work to ensure that every student is prepared to succeed in college and careers.”
The 2013 Illinois Honor Roll lists 177 schools from 99 public school districts in Illinois. The Honor Roll is divided into three categories – Spotlight Schools, Academic Excellence and Academic Improvement. Each award has unique criteria that best reflect the diverse circumstances of Illinois schools.
- Spotlight Schools – Recognizes 37 high-poverty, high-performing schools that are beating the odds by overcoming the achievement gap.
- Academic Excellence Awards – 23 schools have sustained high performance over at least three years.
- Academic Improvement Awards – 125 schools are showing substantial improvement.
Grande Parke, an elementary school of 715 students, received an Academic Improvement Award. The 2013 Illinois Honor Roll roster contains elementary, middle and high schools, including charter schools, and represents public school districts statewide.
