Paid Lunch Equity
School Program regulations at 7 CFR 210.14(e) require school food authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program to ensure sufficient funds are provided to the nonprofit school food service account for meals served to students not eligible for free or reduced price meals. If your district charges a weighted average of at least $2.59 for a student paid meal in SY13-14 and at least $2.65 in SY14-15, you have met the Paid Lunch Equity requirement. If however you charged less than these amounts, you must work through the USDA’s PLE Calculator and can choose to either 1) increase your paid meal prices, 2) contribute non-federal funds to the nonprofit school food service account, or 3) a combination of increasing prices and contributing non-federal funds.
